The most comfortable masks for men with beards

Masks have become part of our everyday routine since the Covid-19 pandemic began in early 2020. Now, several states, schools and private businesses have mask mandates in effect, some regardless of vaccination status. Fortunately, market of available masks has expanded to countless sizes, shapes, and colors to accommodate any wearer.

Why do beards need different masks?

To be effective, face masks need to be worn properly to prevent the spread of the covid-19 virus. This means that masks should fully cover your nose and mouth and fit snuggly on all sides. Beards can cause masks to protrude and cause gaps between the face and mask so those with larger beards should look into specialized designs.

Just like any other part of your appearance, you probably take pride in your beard. No one wants to remove a mask after hours of wear and reveal a dented or matted beard.  Maintenance and grooming takes effort and you should find a mask that can help protect that.

The length and fullness of your beard can also make traditional mask uncomfortable if you are attempting to fit a lot of hair into a small face covering. Some people have to wear a mask for many hours each day so investing in a comfortable mask solution will make the day much easier. Below are a list of popular masks that have provided a better fit for men with beards.

Some men have found it easier to trim their beards a bit to better fit into traditional masks. It may be a good idea to trim your beard around where the edge of your mask would sit so it fits snuggly to your face.

If wearing a mask is irritating your beard and the skin underneath it, consider adjusting your beard maintenance. Applying beard balms and oils may help to alleviate any discomfort from long periods of mask-wearing.

Impact of Covid-19

Since the Alpha variant was detected, more than four additional variants have been detected throughout the would. As of December 2021, the Omicron variant is the dominant variant in the United States, accounting for 73% of infections. Now more than ever, masks are an important part of reducing the transmission of Covid-19. The virus spreads easily in poorly ventilated spaces, crowded areas, being in close contact with an infected person and touching your eyes, nose, or mouth after touching a contaminated surface.

Along with wearing masks, you can reduce your chances of getting covid-19 by getting fully vaccinated against the virus, staying six feet or more from other people, avoiding crowds, washing your hands often, regularly getting tested for infection and frequently disinfecting highly touched areas.

Covid-19 causes various symptoms while you are infected with the virus. However, some symptoms can last much longer than just the infection period. Some of these include a loss of taste and smell, fatigue, shortness of breath, cough, chest pain and neurological problems.

By investing in a mask that correctly covers your entire face (including your beard) and following other recommended precautions, you can reduce the risk of having to experience the effects of Covid-19.
